Youth drop-out in sports is on the rise. Today, when kids quit, they’re more likely to stay indoors playing video games than to try another activity. The KeYS project wants to turn this trend around! By creating a more engaging, supportive, and fun sports environment, we aim to keep young people active, healthy, and happy. 🏆💪
Why It Matters
Early adolescence is when lifelong habits take shape. Staying active during these formative years can lead to better physical health, stronger bones, improved mental well-being, and fewer risky behaviors. Encouraging kids to remain in sports can help them grow into healthier adults, reduce future healthcare burdens, and create more vibrant communities. 🌱❤️
Our Team & Approach
Three rowing clubs near the Adriatic Sea (in Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy) are joining forces to tackle this challenge. While some clubs specialize in flat-water rowing and others excel in coastal rowing, they’re working together to blend these styles and spice up training routines. Coastal rowing, with its dynamic conditions and “beach party” vibes, offers a fresh twist on the classic sport. Think wavy waters, quick turns, and high-energy sprints! 🌊🚣
Activities & Innovation
- Variety in Training: Introducing coastal rowing to bring excitement and break the monotony of traditional practice sessions.
- Motivation & Fun: Encouraging athletes to have a say in their training, ensuring they feel valued, supported, and part of a community.
- Health & Injury Prevention: Involving a physiotherapist to keep athletes safe and educate them on sustainable exercise habits. 🤸♂️🍀
The Bigger Picture
By making sports as fun and rewarding as possible, we help kids build positive habits that last a lifetime. With the KeYS project, we’re not only keeping youths in sports, but also nurturing future generations of healthy, engaged, and socially connected individuals. 🌍💚
