Last Sunday, the coastal town of Crikvenica, Croatia, hosted an exciting international beach sprint regatta that brought together young athletes from Slovenian and Croatian rowing clubs. With the sun high and the sea unusually calm for a coastal event, the atmosphere was relaxed, yet charged with the kind of motivation and camaraderie that only sport can generate.
What made this regatta special wasn’t just the picturesque setting or the friendly competition — it was the way it showcased how sport can ignite passion, perseverance, and purpose in young people. Events like these are essential to our mission at KEYS: keeping our youth actively engaged in sport.
The beach sprint format, with its fast-paced 2x250m course, challenged both newcomers and seasoned rowers. Despite the atypical sea conditions, all participants demonstrated remarkable effort and resilience. Our own team achieved excellent results: Pia Mušič and Marko Bolha secured second place 🥈in the C2x MIX, with Marko also finishing fourth in the C1x category. Tomi Fabjan and Marko Bizilj proudly took third place 🥉in the C2xM and gained invaluable experience, even though the C1x finals remained just out of reach.
These competitions are more than medals — they are opportunities to grow, connect, and be inspired. From developing skills to building confidence and friendships, sport provides the environment where young people thrive. And in moments like these, we’re reminded why KEYS continues to push for inclusive, meaningful and sustainable pathways in sport.
