Introducing VERTEBRAE to the KeYS Project
One of the most exciting developments in the KeYS Project is our partnership with VERTEBRAE, a renowned physiotherapy clinic based in Slovenia. Founded by Blaž Kopič in 2013, VERTEBRAE specializes in sports injury prevention, manual therapy, and movement-based rehabilitation—key elements for keeping young athletes engaged and healthy in their sporting journey.
Why VERTEBRAE Stands Out in Sports Physiotherapy
VERTEBRAE offers a holistic approach that blends classical osteopathy, visceral manipulation, and orthopaedic principles. Their “explain pain” methodology not only addresses physical injuries but also tackles the mental and emotional aspects of an athlete’s experience. By integrating mind and body, VERTEBRAE helps young athletes build resilience, confidence, and long-term well-being—crucial factors in reducing dropout rates and fostering a love for sports.
A Proven Track Record in Elite Sports
Over the past decade, VERTEBRAE has supported teams like the Slovenian National Women’s Volleyball team, the Men’s Kuwait National Volleyball team, and the Slovenian National Women’s Tennis team. Currently, they collaborate with the local rowing club VK Dravske elektrarne Maribor, applying their expertise to coastal rowing and flat-water rowing. Their hands-on experience ensures that young athletes receive top-tier guidance tailored to their developmental stage and sporting needs.
Empowering the Next Generation of Athletes
Beyond clinic-based work, VERTEBRAE dedicates substantial time to educational initiatives. They actively mentor students at III. Gimnazija Maribor, instilling best practices in youth sports well-being, injury prevention, and performance optimization. This educational outreach ensures that future athletes not only excel in their chosen sport but also understand how to maintain their health over a lifetime.
Shaping International Guidelines for Injury Prevention in Rowing
As a passionate master rower, Blaž Kopič’s personal goal is to establish international guidelines for rehabilitation and injury prevention in rowing. By contributing this expertise to the KeYS Project, VERTEBRAE strengthens our mission to keep youth engaged, active, and injury-free. Their input will help shape a comprehensive framework that can guide coaches, trainers, and sports organizations worldwide.
A Multidisciplinary Approach for Lasting Impact
VERTEBRAE joins forces with kinesiologists from Rowing Club Piran and coaches from the KeYS Project’s partner clubs. This multidisciplinary collaboration ensures that every athlete benefits from a wide range of expert insights. Together, we’re committed to maintaining the highest standards in coaching, training, and athlete care—key elements for long-term participation and enjoyment in sports.
Looking Ahead: Sharing Knowledge on a Global Scale
Once the KeYS Project concludes, VERTEBRAE will continue to share these insights and best practices with the broader rowing community, as well as with other sports-related groups. By promoting prevention strategies, evidence-based rehabilitation, and holistic athlete care, VERTEBRAE ensures that the knowledge gained here will have a lasting impact on youth sports globally.
